“Oral Sex Did Not Cause My Throat Cancer” Michael Douglas Denies Remarks
The 68year old Hollywood actor was diagnosed with cancer some three years ago and was quoted by The Guardian for saying his strain of cancer had been caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus)
But the actor’s publicist, Allen Burry has come out to clarify that Michael Douglas was not referring to his own cancer but was talking about the world statistics according to the World Health Organization,WHO – says HPV can cause cancer of the head and neck.
In a statement to the BBC, Allen Burry said: “No. He [Douglas] did not say oral sex was the cause of his cancer.” He referred to medical evidence linking oral sex to head neck cancer, adding “but [Douglas] did not say it was the cause to his specific cancer.”
Meanwhile The Guardian is not dropping its story. The famous British newspaper has gone ahead to release an audio of the interview. In the paper’s article on Sunday, Douglas was asked it, given his illness; he regretted his years of smoking and drinking.
“No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV which actually comes about from cunnilingus.” Douglas was quoted as saying. “I did worry if the stress caused by my son’s incarceration didn’t help trigger it. But yeah, it’s a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer.” Douglas had added.
The actor who is married to Welsh actress, Catherine Zeta-Jones, was rumored to have been treated in the early 1990s for an addiction, which some claimed to be sex. But he denied it saying he was in rehab for a possible alcohol abuse.
However, both camps are not ready to drop their claims on who was telling the truth. So we would wait and see how the story unfolds.
