Car Kills 15 Youths In Early Morning Accident


An early morning routine exercise by some youths in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau state, north central Nigeria became tragic as 15 of them were crushed to death by a commercial vehicle.

The accident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, left several other youths injured and are receiving treatment at the Barkin Ladi General Hospital.

Eyewitness account says that the station wagon Peugeot car swerved off the road and ran into the group of 40 who were jogging.


Those affected in the accident are from Mazat in Rop district of the local government area. A member of the community told Channels Television that the youths engage in the routine exercise every Saturday morning and have been doing this for a while.

The driver of the vehicle and a passenger escaped been lynched by the angry mob who eventually set the vehicle ablaze.

Plateau state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Pam Dakwak has ordered that the injured be moved from the General Hospital Barkin Ladi to the Plateau Specialist Hospital for adequate medical attention.
